There is “a time to make merry, and a time to weep.’” This is what is written in Ecc. 3:4, for this man of wisdom knew that life carries seasons. Based on the state of his nation, and the Word of the Lord in his mouth, Jeremiah, cried out for the wailing women. The backdrop was the sin of idolatry, barrenness, captivity, displacement and sorrow that the prophet saw around him. God’s people had turned away from Him. God had brought punishment upon the nation, so that all would consider their ways and turn back to Him. In the midst of the crisis, the prophet, has this to say, “oh that my head were a spring of water and my eyes a fountain of tears! I would weep day and night for the slain of my people” Jer. 9:1.

He continued in v7, “Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty says, “See I will refine and test them, for what else can I do, because of the sin of my people?”

Now, those are God’s commands, not the prophets, “consider now, call for the wailing women to come. Send for the most skillful of them. Let them come quickly and wail over us, till our eyes overflow with tears and water streams from our eyelids.”

God is calling for these kingdom intercessors today. We see the state of the land. We are up against the same spiritual environment, apathy towards God and the things of the spirit - lying, deception, stubbornness and greed - yet God wants a particular caliber of saints to cry out, to mourn, to weep deeply, to bring petitions to Him, to supplicate - those who will rise to the urgency of the hour and stand in the gap, that’s the call for wailing women and wailing men!
